Training & Classes

Boulder Rural Fire Department offers training and classes for both Fire/EMS responders and the general public.  Each month we offer a different medical topic for all to participate.  The monthly topic is posted on our training calendar.  The classes are on Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Check the training calendar for any changes or updates.

Training Calendar

July 2010

FIRE:

Water rescue drill this month.  Goal is to familiarize folks with the throw bag and PFD.  Run-off has subsided but there is still adequate flow in our local streams/rivers and we have multiple lakes and reservoirs in our response area.  Saturday training.

NFPA 1410 drill, relay pumping and attack lines.  Good training for our  engineers and for initial attack.  A probable scenario as we had at North Boulder where we have a water source (hydrant/pond) and are able to relay to attack pumper.  Saturday training.

Wednesday fire training will be large area search.  We will look to use the new training center or our new station.  We will confirm the location.

New Fire Training Center update.  We spoke with Division Chief Johnson (Boulder Fire Training Chief) on Monday and he stated they have completed the "initial" test burns (two pallets per room)  in each room of the new burn building.  They have not completed the "curing" burns.  The "curing" burns will involve multiple pallets and a "TIC' or other piece of equipment to measure the heat produced by the pallets. The "curing" burns will allow us to put together a table, which will be posted on the burn building, showing temperature ranges for different burns.  Chief Johnson stated they have not received the keys to the training center but believe it could be as soon as the end of this week, or by next week.  With that said, BRFD will be working with BFD during these burns.  Chief Johnson said he will contact us as he has a schedule.  If we find out before the day of burning, we will let everyone know.   I believe we will find out the day/morning of the burns.  The training schedule has left mornings open.  Anyway, just an FYI and we will try and get as many folks involved as we can based on the timing.  We hope to start using the new center in July.  We will update as we know.

16 Firefighter Life Safety Initiatives:  They are posted all over the station.  Take some time and review them and know them.

WILDLAND:

Our current roster for those who have their "Red Card" has been exported to Colorado State Forest Service. As you accumulate training and experience, let us know and we can update your "qualifications."  We can update a few times a year.  It is your responsibility to keep your training and experience updated.  As a department, we track and update the roster every year for the refresher and pack test.  Beyond that, it is up to you.  If anyone is interested in being a single resource on ROSS, contact training and we can discuss.  If you need any gear, be sure and touch base with Greg Nichols.

HAZMAT:

The duty crew will be doing a walk through of the Waste Water Treatment plant on the 9th.  You are welcome to attend.  Monthly training at LFD is on the 8th.  We will update you if it is at Boulder.

EMS/CPR:

Topic for the month is diabetes.  Check the website for power point CE presentation for diabetes.  Should be up after the holiday.  CPR 3x this month.

CERTS/TRAINING ETC:

There has been a bit of TRAINING questions involving certification's, recertification's, JPR's, practicals, testing etc.  If you have a question, contact training and they will have the RIGHT answer or get you one.
