Training & Classes

Boulder Rural Fire Department offers training and classes for both Fire/EMS responders and the general public.  Each month we offer a different medical topic for all to participate.  The monthly topic is posted on our training calendar.  The classes are on Wednesdays from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Check the training calendar for any changes or updates.

Training Calendar

Training highlights for January:

FIRE:  Ice rescue classroom and practical.  We lost a bit of the ice with the recent warm spell, but there should be some good ice for practical training.  Check schedule for dates and times.  We are also  focusing on our basic SCBA skills including donning and self rescue and reviewing our may-day (LUNAR) protocol.  In February we will specifically focus on our new RIT bag and the protocols set for a RIT team.  We welcome our new firefighters, Dillon, Ryan and Wes and have the mini-academy set for the second week of January.

The Spring FFI Academy starts on the 26th of January.  As always, you are welcome to attend and assist with the practical days.

HAZMAT:  The first or second week of the month.  The day has not been confirmed.  We will advise and let you know.  Hazmat techs as well as our ops folks are always welcome.  The trainings rotate between Longmont Station 5 and the training center.

EMS:  Boulder County protocol review for January.  The Boulder County EMS conference is the third weekend in January.  I believe some of you have signed up.  This is an outstanding conference close to home.  Just a reminder, your NR-EMT expires March 31st.  Thank you for filling out the training sheets with the appropriate documentation.

We will also have AMR drop by for a meet and greet.  They are on a 48/96 schedule.  It will be good to get to know the crews, and we can review their ambulances.

WILDLAND:  We are planning on having the sand/table top exercises in February.  They will be simular to the hot seat training we have had in the past, but wildland vs. structure.

PUBLIC EDUCATION:  Lots of pub-ed throughout the month, at the station and at our schools.  See the calendar for events.

Happy New Year to everyone, lets keep up the strong work.
