What's New
New Engine/Pumper
Our new front line pumper is here! It is built on the Pierce Quantum platform, which we believe is the finest and safest engine for the responders of BRFD and the customers which we serve. The platform employs Pump Under Cab (PUC) technology, which cuts down on maintenance costs by easier access for repair and maintenance, improving the turning radius by about 30 percent. Through efficiencies in design, there is about 40 percent more cabinet space. The new pumper has a full compliment of passanger airbags for increased passenger protection. We are currently training our engineers to operate the new 2301. It should be operating as our official front-line pumper by mid April.
We have purchased and received two Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs). These high tech devices are used in structural firefighting to locate hidden fire and hotspots that are not visible to the naked eye. They can “see” through smoke or darkened rooms to locate a victim in a structure fire. We have used them to locate the victim of a car crash who, in the middle of the night, got separated from their vehicle.
New Public Safety Educator
Boulder Rural has hired Stephanie Thai to enhance its public education program as a Public Safety Educator. Stephanie comes to us with 10 years experience as an elementary school teacher. She works part-time for the Longmont Fire Department and part-time for Boulder Rural.
Stephanie will be making sweeping changes to the safety education presentations given to the school children in the District.
